3.5 year old Jubaea chilensis growing fast this year.  This one is not the biggest I have but probably my favorite.

I'd like to be under the sea in an octopus' garden in the shade.

Thanks!  Those Emerald Isle seeds you sent are loving this Oregon heat.  Two leaf straps at this point.  Not bad for sabal in the PNW.

Awesome.

I just pulled this volunteer up and gave it to my parents. I pull these things up all summer, but this one went undetected for a couple years because it was behind a Gardenia I cut back.

Side note: my parents have never been fans of palms. I think the fact that we tour each other’s yards and they’ve spent a lot of time sitting by the pool in my back yard the past couple years has turned them onto them finally.

Is that a Butia volunteer?  If it's Jubaea I'd like to see a pic of the mother palm. :)  Not common in Brunswick I'm sure but Butia would be.

Yes, you’re right. It is a Butia, not a Jubea. My mistake.

Here’s my little Oregon Jubaea. Growing fast this year with the extra heat. Last year it looked very similar to yours.

Woohoo! Will you be trying it in the ground?

Yes, I just haven't decided where to plant it yet.  I know they grow much faster in the ground.  I got a bigger one about a year ago and it's now about 3X the size it was when I first put it in the ground.

Are you sure that's a Jubaea?  Looks like a hybrid of some sort.

He answered my assumption about 4 posts up - it's a Butia that must have been stretched out from growing underneath/behind his Gardenia.  Looks cool though.
