Amazing Pete. I can't believe how big Ravenea Robustior is - even young. Mardy has these and they are slow monsters for sure.

Slow Monster for sure Len, but i think its finally hit a home run with 3 huge spears at once, hes on the move and receives a lot of water as its not far from a down pipe.Regarding the bottom Ravenea, cant remember if its Krokiana or Lakatra, whatever it is it has stunning mottled markings on the spear. Will, post a pic later of younger Robustior in full sun, deep soil which is starting to move too.The Monster Raveneas are Great Palms for the landscape.

Wow--that thing's more upright than any palm I have ever seen! What kinda soil does it like, or is she not very picky?

Andrew, Yes this would be the most upright Palm we have in the gardens, they are like that right from the beginning. The big one is in heavy soil and gets a LOT of rainwater. The smaller one pictured here is in deep red soil and full sun and growing at a quite a fast rate as it doesnt have any root competition. Theses palms are true ancient giants.

Truly magnificent palms!drool.gif

Ravenea lakatra must also be a beauty! Does it eventually reach equally huge dimensions? Could you post a whole palm picture of it to see?smilie.gif

Thank you very much in advance!smilie.gif

ps the hose is tied between palms to stop fronds crashing down on the bromeliads.

Another great one! Does anyone have any more large Ravenea photos? I'm still in awe of the Ravenea in Mardy Darian's yard.

No worries Kostas, and you got the name right on the beautiful mottled Ravenea, i said Krociana originally but yes it is Lakatra, if you find any of the Giant Raveneas, get them planted asap and remember these palms naturally grow beside streams, so LOTS of water is appreciated and certainly gets them moving.

Jastin, Robustior grows from the steamy sea level to 2000mtrs, so they can take it cold.
