Common Name The Shield Grip Stelis

Found in Districto Ferderal of northern Venezuela and Ecuador without locality in montane cloud forests at elevations around 1300 to 1600 meters as a miniature sized, cool growing, caespitose epiphtye with approximate, erect ramicauls enveloped by 2 to 3 tubular sheaths and carrying a single, apical, erect, spathulate, attenuate towards the base into the small, petiolate base leaf that blooms at most any time fo the year on a solitary, arising through a small, acuminate spathe, shorter than the leaf, 1.2 to 2.4" [3 to 6 cm] long including the .4" [1 cm] long peduncle, racemose, distichous, pauciflorus almost down to the base inflorescence with has cucullate, shortly apiculate, shorter than the ovary floral bracts and carrying yellow green flowers.

"Characterized by a fewe flowered raceme that is shorter than the narrowly oblong leaf. The sepals are ovate with the laterals held forward. The broadly undulate lateral sepals are free from each other and when expanded curve upwards. The petals are flabelalte and single veined. The proportionally large, unclassified lip is ovet, aciteconcave and more or less spoon-shaped withou a callus or bar." Luer 2009
