Common Name The Antenna-Bearing Scaphosepalum [Refering to the sepaline tails]

Flower Size 3/8" [1 cm]

Found in Antioquia department of Colombia, Morona-Santiago province of Ecuador and Huanuco department of Peru in damp lower reaches of the cloud forest and in wet montane forests that occurs at elevations of 1500 to 2550 meters as a small sized, cool to cold growing, caespitose epiphyte or terrestrial with short ramicauls subtended by a scarious, semi-inflated basal bract with a single, apical, elliptic-spatulate, long petiole, obtuse leaf and blooms on a lateral, erect, verrucose, 18" [45 cm] long, laxly racemose inflorescence with several distant, tubular, appressed bracts and variable sized floral bracts and simultaneously opening flowers held well above the leaf and occuring in the spring.

"The sepaline tails of the vegetatively similar Scaphosepalum pulvinare are shorter and in apposition from the acute apex of the scaphoid synsepal instead of decurved, and divergent." Luer 1988
