Common Name or Meaning The Thin Pseudobulbed Oncidium

Flower Size 1 to 1.2" [2.5 to 3 cm]

Found in Costa Rica in deciduous forests at elevations of 800 to 1000 meters as a small sized, warm growing, caespitose epiphyte with elliptic-ovoid to suborbicular, strongly laterally compressed, furrowed when dry pseudobulbs enveloped basally by 2 to 4, imbricate, leaf-bearing sheaths and carrying 1 to 2 [3], apical, sessile to shortly petiolate, strongly carinate abaxially, elliptic to obovate, obtuse, coriaceous, conduplicate towards the base leaves that blooms in the fall and spring on a lateral, erect to arcuate, paniculate, longer than the leaf, 20 to 32" [50 to 80 cm] long, fractiflex, 2 to 5 flowered per branch, several to many flowered inflorescence.

This species is often cited as a synonym of Oncidium ansiferum but it differs from O stenobulbum in having yellow green color pseudobulbs, shorter leaves that also are much squatter or shorter, less hatchet shaped column wings and most notably spotted tepals and also is found most often around 1350 meters. So we follow Atwood and Retana here and keep them separate.
