Found in Mexico, Guatemala and Nicaragua at elevations around 1700 to 2300 meters in humid oak forests, montane rainforests, rupicolus on cliffs and in Mesophytic barranca forests as a solitary leafed, pendant growing, miniature sized, cool to cold growing epiphyte or lithophyte with oblong to oblong-elliptic, compressed, 2 to 3 furrowed, yellow-green, carrrying a single, apical erect, arched, linear-oblong, acute to obtuse, emarginate, dorsally carinate, conduplicate towards the base leaf that blooms on a short to 1/2" [1.5 cm], sheathed inflorescence with waxy, long-lasting, color variable flowers occuring almost year round but most often in winter through spring.

Differs from the similar M tenuiolia in the larger, thicker leaves, the larger callus and the lack of scent to lightly phenoiol scented but with no coconut fragrance.
