Common Name The Crooked Masdevallia [refers to the sepaline tube]

Flower Size to 3" long [to 7.5 cm]

Found Rio de Janiero, Espirito Santo, Guanabara, Minas Gerais and Parana states of brazil in the organ Mountains, Peru and Chuquisaca department of Bolivia in montane forests at elevations of 1100 to 2000 meters as a miniature to small sized, cool growing, tufted epiphyte with erect leaves is from with stout, erect ramicauls enveloped by 2 to 3 tubular sheaths carrying a single, apical, erect, coriaceous, narrowly elliptical, acute to subacute leaf with the base narrowly cuneate into the petiole that blooms in the summer with an erect, arising from low on the ramicaul, with a basal bract, to 7" [17.5 cm] long, congested, slender, erect, round to triquetrous, successively single, to 5 flowered inflorescence with thin, imbricating, fugacious, shorter than the pedicel floral bracts with flowers held at or above the leaves.

"Vegetatively the plants are inseparable from the majority of medium sized species. The peduncle is usually triquetrous and nearly or barely as long as the leaf. Often a peduncle is triquetrous below the middle and gradually becoming round towards the apex. The sepaline tube is more or less laterally compressed and suborbicular with a prominent constriction below, just distal to the mentum. The petals are oblong with longitudinal thickening along both halves. The lip is divided by a pair of marginal folds into a subverrucose epichile and an oblong hypochile." Luer 2000
