Found in Taiwan, Assam, Bangladesh, eastern Himalayas, Nepal, western Himalayas, Myanmar, Thailand, Malaysia, Java, Sumatra, the Philippines, Bismark Islands, New Guinea and Australia in riverine lowland grasslands at elevations around 40 to 2000 meters as a small to large sized, hot to cool growing terrestrial with a horizontal rhizome and fusiform-oblong pseudobulbs with a few internodes carrying a single, apical, linear to linear-lanceolate, acuminate, plicate leaf that blooms in the fall on an erect, elongated, 8 to 12 flowered, 10.8" to 34" [27 to 85] long, racemose inflorescence partly enveloped by tubular, acute bracts and with ovate-lanceolate, acuminate, 5-nerved floral bracts.
