Common Name The Brick-Red Comparettia

Flower Size .8" [2 cm]

Found in Venezuela, Espirito Santo, Rio de Janiero, Minas Gerais, Sao Paulo, and Parana' states of Brazil, Peru and Bolivia at elevations around 390 meters as a miniature sized, hot to cool growing epiphyte with oblong to spindle-shaped, slightly compressed, often red tinged pseduobulbs enveloped basally by ovate to triangular sheaths in youth and carrying a single, apical, narrowly lanceolate to strap-shaped, coriaceous, oblique apically, gradually tapering towards the base leaf that blooms in the spring on a basal, 6 to 9" [15 to 22 cm] long, 5 to 15 flowered arching, occasionally branched inflorescence that arises on a newly matured pseudobulb and holds the widely spaced flowers towards the apex
