Common Name or Meaning The Elongated Agrostophyllum

A giant sized, warm to cool growing, hanging, monopodial epiphyte from the Malay pennisula to the Philippines, Solomon Islands to Vanuatu, and Papua and New Guinea at elevations of 900 to 1500 meters and can be found on tree branches in primary rainforest with a humus and moss pads having 2 rows of distichous, crowded, oblong, bilobed and apiculate leaves that are at right angles to the imbricating stem which gives rise to a terminal or lateral inflorescence. Each of the inflorescence types are different in their makeup, the terminal inflorescence is a tight ball of many bracts with 12 flowers facing out 360', no more than 3 to 5 open at a time; the lateral inflorescence is a short stem with a single flower, rarely 2 having a few bracts at the base. Flowers are most likely in the fall through spring in nature but may occur at any time.
