Biography: Guru Nanak was the founder of Sikhism and the first of the ten Sikh Gurus. His birth is celebrated as Guru Nanak Gurpurab on Katak Pooranmashi, which falls in October-November. Nanak traveled extensively to teach people about Ik Onkar, the concept of one God. His teachings, emphasizing equality, love, and virtue, are recorded in the Guru Granth Sahib.

Nanak was born in the village of Rāi Bhoi Kī Talvaṇḍī, now Nankana Sahib in Pakistan. His childhood was reportedly marked by events that demonstrated his divine grace, including his interest in divine subjects from a young age and astounding his teacher with his understanding of the unity of God. Nanak married Sulakhani and had two sons.

When Nanak was thirty, he had a revelatory experience while bathing in a river. After this he gave up his employment and possessions, thereafter travelling to spread the message he had received: "There is no Hindu, no Muslim."

Nanak's extensive travels, known as Udasis, took him to various parts of Asia, including Tibet, South Asia, and the Middle East. His teachings focused on the importance of an honest life, remembrance of God, and sharing with others. Nanak's emphasis on the spiritual life being intertwined with the everyday life was a cornerstone of his teachings.

Around the age of 55, Nanak settled in Kartarpur. During this period, he continued to teach and travel on short journeys. He appointed Bhai Lehna as his successor Guru, renaming him Guru Angad. Guru Nanak passed away in 1539 in Kartarpur.
