MUNNSVILLE — Vernon C. “Gus” Rood Jr., 48, of Park Place, passed away on Friday, Aug. 13, 2010 at Upstate University Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Oneida on March 7, 1962, he was the son of Vernon C. and Sylvia J. Hyland Rood Sr. A lifelong resident of the area, Gus graduated from Stockbridge Valley Central School, Class of 1980. He was currently employed by the family business, Rood’s Painting, as a painter. Gus was an avid fan of the New York Yankees and Syracuse University basketball. He enjoyed traveling the hills of Munnsville with “the redhead” and his brother-in-law, Dan. Gus was always attentive and concerned for the well-being of his entire family, especially his mom, Sylvia. He was a member of the Vernon American Legion, Post 404 and was of the Christian faith. Surviving are his mother Sylvia Rood of Munnsville; one son, Vernon C. “Gussie” Rood III, of Oneida, currently serving in the United States Army stationed in Iraq and Afghanistan; six sisters and three brothers-in-law, Gail and Daniel Eanniello, Pamela Rood and Shawn M. and Gary Meyer, all of Munnsville; Charlene Lawless and Christiana Rood, all of Oneida; Roxanne R. and William Villnave of Morrisville; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Michael Rood and Scott A. and Tonya Rood, all of Munnsville and 16 nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father Vernon C. Rood Sr. in 1996, a sister Colleen A. Rood in 1959 and a nephew, Aaron Rood in 1999. Family and friends may call at the Campbell-Dean Funeral Home, Inc., 260 Main St., Oneida on Wednesday, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held immediately following calling hours at 7 p.m. with the Reverend Neil Coe, officiating. Interment will be made in Stockbridge Cemetery at 10 a.m. on Thursday. Immediately following the services at the cemetery, the family will receive friends at the Munnsville American Legion.
