Longspine urchin

Biology

The longspine urchin is distinguished by its notably long spines (that can measure 30 centimetres), which shake when disturbed by intruders. These spines, in addition to being sharp, have a toxin capable of causing quite painful inflammations. For this reason, few animals dare to touch them.

Curiosities

The long and poisonous spines from this urchin are the perfect defence for the small shrimpfish that seek shelter from its predators among them.
