Description and Ethnobotany

Foliage 15-45cm long with sheathing leaf base crowded at top of the rootstock and often produce adventitious buds at the tip when in contact in soil.
Flowers The inflorescence appears almost at ground level. Flowers are yellow; the first 1-2 flowers are bisexual and the remainders are male.
Ethnobotanical Uses Medicinal: Plant is commonly use as traditional medicine in both Ayurvedic and Chinese systems.  The dried rhizome has been used as a tonic for treatment of general debility.
