Area Firemen Busy Weekend With Several Calls The Brattleboro Fire Department had a busy weekend, but did not have a single serious fire. The department made six calls for downed wires and fallen trees brought down by the weekend ice storm. The department. also answered two false alarms, one of which resulted in the arrest of a man for turning in the alarm and for disorderly conduct. At 7:52 a.m.

today firemen were called to Hinsdale, N.H., by the Keene Mutual Aid system, but found no fire. A woman had reported her house to be totally involved in a fire when in fact the oil burner had blown back, merely filling the house with smoke. Brattleboro firemen were called out in vain on a second Mutual Aid call at 9:53 Monday. The alarm came as of a partition fire at Brookside the Campground in East Putney. The Putney Volunteer Fire Department reported that the fire was taken care of and the Brattleboro equipment was turned around en route.

Putney Fire Chief Leonard Howard Jr. reports that the fire had been caused by a plugged chimney above a wood stove which allowed heat to build up, igniting the partition. West Dummerston covered at the Putney stateion. Brattleboro firemen made two rescue calls over the weekend. At 9:41 p.m.

Sunday, firemen went to Main Street near the Public Market, where a man was seen lying in the road. He was assisted and taken to the hospital. At 11:05 a.m. Sunday, firemen went to 165 South Main St. where a child had swallowed a quantity Rescue Inc.

Rescue Inc. made five calls over the long weekend, one of them dealing with the first baby of the new year in Brattleboro. Rescue Inc. went to West Brattleboro at 7:35 p.m. New Year's Day to assist a woman who was having labor pains.

She was rushed to the hospital and gave birth to a healthy son. The child is the son of Charles and Lynda (Tuttle) Fisk of the Westgate Apartments. In less glamorous activity, Rescue Inc. went to West Brattleboro at 11:30 a.m. Saturday for assistance call.

Sunday at 2:17 p.m. Rescue Inc. went to the scene of an auto accident on I-91. One man was injured in the accident and was taken to Brattleboro Memorial Hospital by Ker's Ambulance. At 9:41 p.m.

Sunday, Rescue Inc. went to High Street where a woman had been injured. Fleming's Ambulance took the woman to the hospital. Tuesday morning at 2:54, Rescue Inc. went to Main Street, where another woman had been injured.

Davis as a director of the Vermont Municipal Bond Bank last week. said that "it will give me an opportunity to serve the towns and people of Vermont in an important, but subtle way." Municipal bonds are a source of capital to towns for major projects. "They can be a very important factor in the growth of communities," Cummings said, "and particularly in regard to the new federal and state environmental requirements. Towns will need more money to -meet these requirements, and where will they get it? Can they raise taxes? I happen to think 'no' they will have to raise outside capital through municipal bonds." Cummings' said that the Bond Bank is not an arm of the state government, yet was created by the state legislature to assemble the bond issues: made up by various towns for their individual needs. The bank is able to coordinate the individual issues so that they can be sold at more Named Bond Bank favorable interest rates when offered collectively.

"I think that the Bond Bank could play an increasingly important role in the financial stability of many Vermont towns," Cummings said. The board will meet in Montpelier "as often as needed" to determine policy and to review the applications by towns to the board to have their issues sold through the New York agency that handles Vermont bonds. Cummings is one of five members of the board. The others are Chairman James C. Davis of the Franklin Bank in St.

Albans, Frank W. Black, vice chairman, who is the chief executive officer and vice president of the Peoples National Bank in Barre, Dr. John T. Fuy, president of the National Life Insurance Co. in Montpelier, and Frank H.

Davis, (ex-officio director of the board), Treasurer of the State of Vermont. Cummings is the only independent, attorney who is not associated with a bank who is on the board of the Bond Bank. Firemen took the child to the hospital. At 7:13 p.m. Sunday, firemen were called to the scene of a car fire on the Putney Road. Firemen found the fire out when they arrived. Sunday at 5:40 p.m.

firemen investigated a report of smoke in the Highland Road area. They found neither smoke nor fire and attributed the report to a dense fog blanketing the region. Friday at 9:20 p.m. firemen went to the scene of an accident on Canal Street and stood by until a wrecker had cleared the wreckage. A highway department truck was called to spread sand on' a gas and oil spill in the street.

Three Held On Charges The Brattleboro Police Department reports the arrest of three Massachusetts youths in connection with a breaking and entry Sunday morning at Henry's Fruitland. Police report that Roy Thomas Leonard, 19, and Jerome to Patrick Lynch, 20, and a juvenile all from Orange, were taken into custody after the investigation of a reported break which came to police at 5:26 a.m. The three subjects were lodged at Woodstock Correctional Center for arraignment today in Windham District Court. Also due for arraignment today is a Brattleboro man charged with turning in a false fire alarm early Monday, morning. Police report that Joseph R.

Miner, 24, of Elliot Street, is scheduled to appear in court this morning on A the false alarm charge. Firemen received a street box alarm at 4:34 a.m. At the location of the box, at the corner of Frost and Williams Streets, firemen found no fire, but found Miner standing in the middle of the road. According to the fire department report, the subject was uncooperative and the police were called. Miner was arrested, then' freed on bail for arraignment today.

He faces charges of turning in a false alarm and disorderly conduct. At 2 p.m. New Year's Day, police received reports of coats stolen from two customers the Village Barn. With the two coats were also stolen three pairs of gloves and two pairs of glasses. Total value of the missing items is over $200., Police are investigating.

A man was arrested Sunday evening and held without bail until today for arraignment or forgery charges. The police log reveals that Dennis James Beauregard was arrested at 11:50 p.m. Sunday on a warrant issued by the state's attorney. Further details of this case were not available. State and local police report auto accidents over the many weekend due to the treacherous road conditions.

Fortunately, although property damage in some cases was severe, personal injuries remained slight. Brattleboro police report a three-car collision at 9:17 p.m. Friday on Canal Street north of Fairview Street. Involved in the collision were cars operated by Roger Dwight Ashbury, 24, of 68 Main by Cheryl Marrie Collins, 25, of 59 Oak Grove and by Alice Mopolitano Berg, 48, of Hinsdale, N. H.

Two of the cars were parked outside the Green Door Restaurant at the time of the accident. Extensive damage was done to each vehicle, totalling $2,300. Damage estimated at $1,750 was done in a two-car collision at 1:02 p.m. Saturday along Route 30, according to local police. Operators of the cars involved were Maria Eva Lidstrom, 25, of Somers, and Patricia Margaret Grout, 24, of Putney.

Police report another two-car crash at 1:33 p.m. Saturday on Route 5 in front of the Yankee Ingenuity Shop. In this accident damage totalling $1,000 was done to cars operated by Robert Andrews Maston, 35, of Amesbury, and by Steven John Butynski, 21, of Vernon. Brattleboro police record two accidents happening Monday along Route 9-Western Avenue. At 2:42, there was a two-car accident at Doug's Arco Station on the Marlboro Road involving cars operated by Frances Rosemary Brewer, 23, of Northfield, and by William Joseph Christensen, 19, of East Providence, R.

I. Damage to the vehicle was set at a total of $700. A signpost at the station was also damaged. At 7 p.m. Monday, police report an accident on Western Avenue at the Brattle Street intersection.

Damage estimated at $200 was done to a car operated by William Kenneth Madore, 20, of Dummerston. Approximately $50 damage was done to a highway department sign. Parnigoni Named to NAB Post WASHINGTON The National -Association of Broadcasters announced today that David E. Parnigoni, president of radio station WKVT, has been appointed chairman of the Membership Committee for the state of Vermont. He is the immediate past president of the Vermont Association of Broadcasters, and was former chairman of the National Association of Broadcasters Code Authority for the state of Vermont.

Selectmen To Discuss Budget A hearing on the Windham County 1973 budget is scheduled on the Brattleboro Selectmen's agenda for tonight's meeting. The hearing will be held in the Windham District Courtroom in the Municipal Center at 8 p.m. Also on the agenda is a list of the proposed improvements of Memorial Park.

Town recreation officials Nelson Withington and Frank Dearborn will attend. A recommended pay rate for outside or contract police services will be discussed. Among other items: -Town auditor vacancy to be filled. -Financial review of 1972. -A $480,000 current expense note, general fund, dated Jan.

3, due March 27, 1973, at 2.90 per cent at the First Vermont Bank and Trust Co. The Vermont National Bank bid was 3.15 per cent. -Final budget sessions will be held, and the 1973-74 budget will be reviewed. Mrs. Maybelle A. (Severance) Smith, 77, of 33 Forest St. died Saturday in Hawthorne, following a brief illness. She was the widow of Harold L.

Smith and had lived in Brattleboro since 1942. For the past three months she had been visiting in California. MRS. HAROLD L. SMITH Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m.

at the Rhode Dawley Funeral Home. Pastor Robert Farley of the Sevent Adventist Church will officiate. Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. Mrs. Smith was born May 23, 1895 in Jamaica, daughter of Charles and -Alva (Cady) Severance, Her marriage took place June 1913 in Randolph.

Mr. Smith died in 1936. She was a member of the Seventh day Adventist Church. She leaves five sons, Kenneth of Milford, N.J., Howard of Conova, Carlton of Hawthorne, Alvin of Glendale, and Albert of Loma Linda, six daughters, Mrs. Julia Paulman of Enfield, Mrs.

Bernice Bouquet of Jamaica Plain, Mrs. Alva Dascomb of Brattleboro, Mrs. Lyla Onsruth of White River Junction, Mrs. Christine Greene of Orlando, and Mrs. Norma Dyke of Ethiopia; 40 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

MRS. ARTHUR TUTHILL Funeral services- were conducted at Ker Funeral Home Monday afternoon for Mrs. Mettie Irene (Clark) Tuthill, 82, who died Saturday morning at Linden Lodge. A former resident of Guilford Street Extension, she was the widow of Arthur Tuthill, who died in 1947. The Rev.

Carrol Newquist, minister. of First United Methodist Church, officiated. Mrs. Joseph Grover was organist. Burial in the spring will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Morrisville.

Mrs. Tuthill was born in Duane, N. Feb. 15, 1890. She had lived in Brattleboro about 30 years, coming here from Morrisville.

Surviving are four sons, Ernest of Morrisville, Vernon of Greenfield, Fred of East Weymouth, and Clifton of Brattleboro; three daughters, Mrs. Edith Pierce of Brattleboro, Mrs. Florence Fleming of Morrisville and Mrs. Ida Jalbert of Greenfield; and many grandchildren. MRS.

GEORGE ANDERSON Mrs. Albena Marie (Filion) Anderson, 81, of 73 Central St. died Sunday morning at Eden Park Nursing Home after a long illness. She was. the widow of George F.

Anderson, who died June 16, 1944. Mrs. Anderson was born in Winchendon, Feb. 28, 1891, daughter of Peter L. and Heloise (Gregoire) Filion.

Survivors include a son, Francis F. of Brattleboro; a daughter, Mrs. Barbara Packard of Brattleboro; two sisters, Mrs. Frank W. Milkey and Miss Julia Filion, both of Brattleboro; fourgrandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated Wednesday at 10 a.m. at St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church. Friends may call at the Fleming Funeral Home this evening from 7 to 9. A prayer service will be conducted at 8:50 p.m.

Women's Club Will See Puppet Show A hand puppet show will be presented at the meeting of Brattleboro Woman's Evening Club Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at Centre Congregational Church. Mother-children night will be, observed. Performers will be the Rev. Horst Bandle, pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church, and his wife Janet.

The Rev. Mr. Bandle is a native of Germany and has fashioned the puppet show in the European or "Punch and Judy" tradition. Many of the puppets are from Germany and their personalities and zany slapstick amuse both young and old alike. Also appearing in the show are two stick puppets, one of the oldest forms of puppets.

Recorded calliope music will be used between the scenes. Dessert will be served by the hostesses for the evening. WALPOLE, N.H. Mrs. Catherine (Mowat) McAfee, 92, widow of Eldon J.

McAfee, died Sunday morning at her home on Main Street. A family service was to be held at Fenton and Hennessey Funeral Home today. The Rev. George Niles, rector of the Unitarian Church, officiated. Memorial gifts in her memory may be given to Silver Mountain Grange, Lempster, in care of Hubert Hartwell.

She was born in North Forks, New Brunswick, on July 8, 1880, daughter of William H. and Phoebe (Knox) Mowat. She served as postmistress in Lempster for over 20 years and also operated a store there. She was a member of Silver Mountain Grange for over 50 years. She was an honorary member of Acworth Woman's Club, a member of the Farm Bureau of Sullivan County, and a member of Women's Alliance of the Unitarian Church of Walpole.

She was married in North Forks on Oct. 10, 1907. She leaves one son, Sam McAfee of Zephyr Hills, two' daughters, Mrs. James Drew of Lempster and Mrs. Richard Pearce of Walpole; one brother, Hedley Mowat of Lancaster, N.B.; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
