Colorful, beneficial, no maintenance

This desert native will take care of itself, feed native bees and other pollinators, and produce seed that is edible by small birds. The flowers are plentiful, bright yellow, and long lasting. It is short-lived but reseeds itself. It does tend to spread, but is easily controlled. A winner!
