ThanksHas more to do with the fish's social dominance than age in my experience. Fish that are kept completely alone may not grow as large of a kok, or any at all, as they have no need to "show off" their dominance. Fish kept in groups, where there is a social hierarchy, will display for each other, and the dominant male will grow a large kok to say "I am the boss".
Yes I think it could, the kok can shrink and grow a bit with the fish's standing in a tank . If you grow a group of fish that grow them out, the top fish usually has the most pronounced forehead. Of course, these are generalizations and there will be exceptions, not always true, some dominant fish don't grow them, etc.Gourami Swami Do you think that if a fish with a kok like the fish above is kept alone for all his life and doesn’t grow a kok and is then put in with others of his kind that he might grow a kok?
What a beast! Nice fish danAgree with Gourami Swami, all so ime Amatitlania can take longer for them to grow a nuchal hump then other spp. This is a old pic of a male I used to have, about 3 years old before he started looking like this.
