VERA L. BAUER

GOWRIE — Vera L. Bauer, 95, passed away peacefully Thursday, June 1, 2017 at the Gowrie Care Center.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 5, 2017 at United Methodist Church, Gowrie with Pastor Annette Kruse officiating. Burial will be in Gowrie Township Cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, June 4, 2017 at Palmer Funeral Home, Gowrie.

Vera L. Mullins was born July 15, 1921 in Paton, IA to Benjamin F. and Clara S. (Meyer) Mullins. She attended country school and then graduated from Paton High School in 1939. On August 24, 1941 she was united in marriage to Verlin H. Bauer at the Methodist Church in Farnhamville. Following their marriage, the couple farmed in the Paton area until 1947. At that time, they purchased a farm just northwest of Gowrie where they continued farming until their retirement in 1982. Vera considered herself a homemaker along with taking a very active part in the family farming business. Verlin passed away May 8, 2001. She remained on the farm until moving into the Senior Suites in Gowrie in the spring of 2001. More recently, she had been a resident at the Gowrie Care Center since 2013. Vera was a member of the Gowrie United Methodist Church and the UMW. She was also a member of the Neighborly Birthday Club for many years.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Verlin; her parents, Ben and Clara Mullins; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Leslie and Elva Mullins; Lewis and Eva Mullins; and brother-in-law, Harold Bauer.

Vera is survived by her sons, Vernon (Mary) Bauer of Gowrie; Vance (Sibyl) Bauer of Gowrie; three grandchildren, Philip Bauer of Farnhamville; Lisa (Gerald) Malloy of Tucson, AZ; and Mark (Kristen) Bauer of Ames; sister-in-law, Arlene Bauer of Gilbert, AZ; many nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
