GEBCO: discoverer and year of discovery (en): Discoverer: Philippines survey vessel "Hydrographer Presbitero". Year of discovery: 2004. History: Named from the Malungai (Hopea foxworthyi), a tree species endemic to the Philippines. It is locally common on red sticky volcanic soil along ridges at 600-700m, in seasonal semi-evergreen forest, primary and/or secondary. Its timber is used for general construction, and it is good for soil erosion control. |
