Wander the ruins of the Gothic castle to uncover this 14th century hidden gem near the beautiful Hostýn Mountains.
The old granddaddy of Movarian castles, this castle has been around since at least the 14th century during the rule of John the Blind. Lukov is one of the biggest castles around in size and history. Not to be missed for history buffs visiting the Czech Republic.
Nestled into the town of Lukov and the Hostýn Mountains, the castle is just a 40 minute drive away from Zlin. The castle has been in ruins for hundreds of years, standing as a monument to Movaria’s ancient history. You’ll cross the bridge over the moat to reach the castle ruins.
Inside you’ll find many pieces of history including a 13th century Gothic gate, the ground floor of the Western Palace, and a farm building near the entrance. When you’re in the ruins of the Western Palace, you’ll see a vault that was restored by a team of volunteers. Head over to the top of the outer defensive structure of the castle for the best view of the surrounding nature.
