Coffee flowers are important in the cycle of growing coffee beans. Coffee flowers usually consist of a white five lobed corolla, a calyx , five stamens and a pistil. The ovary is the base of the Corolla and contains two ovules that if duly fertilised produce two coffee beans. Pictured are 7 coffea species flowers which have distinct characteristics and shapes. The smallest is the Indian native species Jenkinsii, closely followed by another Indian native species wightiana, then robusta , arabica and benghalensis and the largest flowers are of excelsa and travancorensis. : #CoffeeSpecies #ArabicaCoffee #RobustaBeans #LibericaVariety #wightiana #jenkinsii #TravancorensisCoffee #coffeabenghalensis #indiannativecoffee #CoffeeScience #GeneticsOfCoffee #CoffeeVarieties #BotanicalCoffee #SpecialtyCoffee #CoffeeResearch #coffeespecies #CaffeineGenetics #sicclabs #southindiacoffeecompany #knowyourcoffee

3moI would love to see the beans of these species along with flowers. It shows the variability in coffee species. With most of the plantation cultivating Arabica and Robusta we much seen these flowers. What intrigued me is the variety Jenkinsii and Wightiana. Would love to hear more of them.
