Police: Man held woman against her will in WDM apartment
The West Des Moines Police Department is investigating a kidnapping after they said a man held a woman against her will in an apartment.
At about 9 p.m. Saturday, West Des Moines police reported to the Kum & Go on Eighth Street after a female was claiming to have been kidnapped and held against her will at a West Des Moines apartment.
An officer found the woman at the convenience store. She told authorities her ex-boyfriend, Joseph Hansen, 41, had taken her against her will on Friday from her apartment.
"While being held in an apartment bedroom against her will, the victim claims to have been assaulted numerous times," said Sgt. Jason Heintz. "Eventually, the female victim was able to escape and make her way to the Kum & Go, where she sought help to call the police."
West Des Moines police and a SWAT team executed a search warrant of Hansen's apartment, where he was not found. Police said he fled the scene and broke into a neighbor's apartment. He resisted arrest and assaulted officers, authorities said.
Hansen was taken into custody and charged with domestic assault, second-degree kidnapping, second-degree burglary, possessing a firearm as a felon and assault on a peace officer.
He's being held in the Polk County Jail. Authorities said there may be more charges filed pending the investigation.
The victim was transported to a local hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
