Star moss - Tortula ruralis I face great difficulties to identify mosses. I think this one is Star moss - Tortula ruralis. But I am not sure at all. The photo is taken in a rainy day in the nearby National Reserve Park Vitosha mountain. Need help to correctly identify it.<br />

Star moss - Tortula ruralis

I face great difficulties to identify mosses. I think this one is Star moss - Tortula ruralis. But I am not sure at all. The photo is taken in a rainy day in the nearby National Reserve Park Vitosha mountain. Need help to correctly identify it.

    1. Thank you Ferdy, it helped a lot. It is really T. ruralis, but shown under the synonym name Syntrichia ruralis. In fact in ITIS 2000 only Syntrichia ruralis is included, but the Wiki page is created for Tortula ruralis. Posted 8 years ago

''Tortula ruralis'', commonly known as twisted moss and star moss, is a species of moss with a cosmopolitan distribution. It occurs in North America, the Pacific, Europe, Asia, the Middle East, North and South Africa, South America, and Australia. It grows in many types of climate, including the Arctic, boreal areas, temperate areas, and deserts. It grows in tundra, coniferous forest, grassland, sagebrush, and other habitat types.
