  2. Sorry William, have to re-identify as Adenium arabicum is a synonym for the preferred species name "Adenium obesum".

Also wanted to double-check this species ID, the flower looks different to me, compared to other flower photos of this species. Was there a name sign?

    1. Ferdy, As I did additional research I found this from the University of Arizona. Also the label had Adenium 'Crimson Star" which appears to be an adenium cultivar. Let me know if the name needs to be changed.

The cultivar name (cultivar epithet) should be capitalized, not italicized, and is indicated by single quotation marks (not double quotation The University of Arizona Cooperative Extension marks). In this case the cultivar name follows the name of the genus Adenium without a species indicated, because this cultivar is a hybrid between different species and does not represent a particular species. Adenium ‘Crimson Star’ is a clone of an outstanding hybrid of Adenium obesum crossed with Adenium
swazicum. Although this plant is an interspecific hybrid, the letter x or multiplication symbol × should not be used in front of the cultivar epithet. Interspecific crosses between species may be indicated with a hybrid formula, such as Adenium obesum × A. swazicum. This may be used to describe the parentage of a plant when no cultivar name is being applied.

      1. Thanks, that is great info, I added the conclusion in the description of your post. Cultivars and hybrids are a bit tricky to deal with as the system only supports "main" species. Posted 2 years ago
