Google's Street View car spotted in Mumbai

While it was much more fun to think of a tiny spy hovercraft flying around the streets of Mumbai and snapping pictures of the city-scape, the reality is not that interesting but is obviously realistic. The vehicle you see here in the images, the Mahindra Scorpio is what the Internet giant Google is using to capture the streets of Mumbai for its Street View project.

For those of you, who still don't know what we are talking about, Google had started the Street View project back in 2007 and provides 360 degree geo-referenced spherical images of cities to give users a visual experience, while exploring places rather than going through a simple uninteresting map. 

 

And to populate the Street View function with pictures of major cities, Google employs cars that are equipped with cameras, which are able to capture 360 degrees panoramic photographs and are paired with a GPS module to geo-tag them. These photographs are then stitched together to provide a unique Street View Experience.

Earlier, Google's Street View car was spotted in Bangalore and Hyderabad, which had clearly confirmed that Google is indeed working on Street View for major Indian cities. And it was only, matter of time before Google's Scorpio started doing its predetermined rounds on the streets of Mumbai.
