• Shape: Multi-stemmed shrub

• Leaves: egg shaped with bluntly pointed tip, 2-3 ½ inches long, 1-2 ½ inches wide, finely and singly toothed
• Bark: gray-red/brown, smooth, scattered pale horizontal lenticels
• Fruit/Seed: stout, oval to egg-shaped, cone-like clusters, up to ¾ inch long
• Height: 6-14 feet

• Habitat: mixed forest, clearings, river banks, shores, rock outcrops, bluffs, cliffs
