It's no secret that plants move throughout the day. We all see plants swaying in the wind and being ruffled by animals, but we never actually see them move on their own because they make slow, subtle movements throughout the day.
What many people don't know is that some plants move in a matter of seconds.

The mimosa pudica is a creeping annual and a perennial flower. This flower has pink round bulbs with green leaves that move whenever its touched—whether it's a person, insect, or just a strong burst of wind that blows against the plant a little too hard. Every time something makes contact with the plant, the leaves draw together and overlap one another as they begin to hug the stem of the plant.
Believe it or not, this is how the plant protects itself. Whenever it feels some sort of contact, it thinks 'danger!' Once it feels like the harm is gone, the plant will open itself back up and return to its original state (this usually takes a few minutes).
This plant's behavior has earned it a lot of nicknames: sleepy plant, sensitive plant, touch-me-not. While others use words like shy, bashful or shrinking to personify the plant. See it in action here:
