Syfy is staying in Z Nation.
The NBCUniversal-owned cable network has renewed the zombie apocalypse drama for a fourth season, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. Season four will again consist of 13 episodes and will air in 2017.
Airing on Fridays, Z Nation has been a sturdy performer for Syfy. Its most recent episode to see a live-plus-three-day lift reported aired on Nov. 18. The drama starring Kellita Smith, DJ Qualls and Keith Allan averaged 1.2 million viewers, with nearly 500,000 of them in the advertiser-coveted adults 18-49 demo. Since its premiere, Z Nation regularly ranks among cable’s top 10 most-watched scripted series.
Produced by The Asylum, the series co-stars Anastasia Baranova, Russell Hodgkinson, Nat Zang and Emilio Rivera. Karl Schaefer serves as showrunner.
The renewal comes as Syfy has doubled down in the past few years on more science fiction fare, a la Battlestar Galactica. To that point, the network has found success with a slate that also includes 12 Monkeys, anthology Channel Zero, Dark Matter, The Expanse, Killjoys, The Magicians, Van Helsing and Wynonna Earp. Next up for Syfy is Incorporated and Blood Drive, with the latter due in 2017.
The Z Nation season-three finale is set to air Dec. 16 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on Syfy.
