Giant miscanthus, or also called mammoth miscanthus is possibly the tallest of all eulalias. It is a natural hybrid between m.sinensis and m.sacchariflorus. It makes up to 4m tall, strong stems within one growing season (after 3 years of growing). They are strong and sturdy. Leaves are wide, rich green, and tops are arching like bamboos. It seldom flowers. Plume-like inflorescences are pale pinkish red. It forms impenetrable hedges and screens. Flowers are sterile but roots may be a little invasive.

Eulalia is best grown in sunny and warm areas, in almost any well-drained soil with only occasional watering in summer. It hates boggy soil quite surprisingly copes well with heavy clay unless its roots stand in water before they establish. Giant miscanthus does not need tying up before winter. Cut the stems just above ground level back in early spring. It is very hardy and withstands -34°C (USDA zone 4).
