Loosestrife is our native perennial from moist meadows and ditches. Even though it is a water-loving plant it can grow in locations which may temporarily dry out completely in summer. It produces masses of small purple pink flowers on thin stems which keep on moving in the wind or just a small breeze. It is ideal for English-style perennial borders and cottage gardens.

Robert is an amazingly coloured variety of purple loosestrife with striking, bougainvillea-like purple pink flowers. They are 5-petalled, star-shaped, composed in spikes, and open from the bottom upwards. Blooming begins in late June and continues until early September on well-branched, thin, hairless stems about 60-70 cm tall. Leaves are narrowly willow-like, lance-shaped, dark green, deciduous. Beware of drying out when the plant is prone to powdery mildew.

Loosestrife will grow in virtually any soil, preferably in moist of water-logged conditions in full sun. It may self seed so unless you with the plant to spread remove flowered stems as soon as flowers have faded out. Hardy to about -40°C (USDA zone 4).
