Voters overwhelmingly re-elected Republican Steve Humphrey above challenger Democrat Annie King for House District 48.
Humphrey won 68.3 percent to 31.7 percent.
King hoped to become the first Democrat to represent the district, which includes Severance, Ault, Pierce, Eaton, Milliken, Johnstown, Lucerne, LaSalle, Gilcrest, Platteville and some of Greeley.
Humphrey’s re-election campaign focused on local businesses and local control in government.
As far as oil and gas regulations, while King said she wanted to limit subsidies on the petroleum industry, Humphrey listed oil and gas regulations as part of a radical left-wing agenda.
On his website he wrote, “With their new oil and gas regulations, far left social agenda, and their crusade against our right to keep and bear arms, they’ve not only done tremendous economic harm, they’ve led an all-out assault on our way of life.”
He called oil and gas the life blood for Weld County’s economy.
He said he aims to keep taxes low, and keep power in the hands of small businesses.
With a re-election of Humphrey, voters can expect he will continue to push Weld County’s conservative values in Denver.
On his website he writes about bills proposed by Democrats, “I fought, opposed, and voted against each and every one of their bills.”
In a previous interview with The Tribune, Humphrey said, “People tell me they appreciate the fact I kept my word.”
Neither Humphrey nor King immediately returned calls for comment on the results.
