Torch ginger is a rhizomatous perennial herb that grows up to 6m tall in tropical conditions. It has long and wide ribbed leathery leaves with a central groove up to 85cm long.
The stunning and quite complex pink flowers (inflorescences) grow at end of stalks.
Grow in a humid glasshouse unless you live in tropical climes.
The blooms make excellent cut flower and the stems are cut up and added to curries and noodle soups.
