A tree that has been grown in the field and then lifted out of the ground when dormant. Available from November to March. The roots are more open and the direct contact with the soil encourages them to settle in and establish more readily.
These are 2yr old trees that have been grown 1yr in the field and the second in a pot. Container trees can be planted at any time of the year but establish best when planted during the autumn and need to be watered well during the first summer.
Lime Tree or Linden Tree. These noble trees with their handsome, glossy green foliage are ideal for large gardens, parks and avenues. Particularly suited to pollarding and pleaching due to their flexible, soft shoots. They will thrive in almost any soil except extremes of wet and dry.
The scent of lime tree flowers is said to have mythical hallucinary effects for those who fall asleep within their aroma may find themselves in fairy land.
Quality bee honey and tea are two bi-products of the flowers.
Its pale wood is often used for the making of many musical instruments.
Some special cultivars, such as Winter Orange, have incredibly, vibrant stems. Ideal for a winter garden.
Orange Lime
A compact Lime with red buds and pronounced orange twigs and shoots in winter. White scented flowers.
Lime
Weeping silver lime. Round headed tree with graceful sweeping branches. Creamy yellow flowers, narcotic to bees.
Fast growing tree. Upright habit forming a narrow oval crown. Glossy heart shaped leaves. Height up to 6m.
Large, silver backed, dark green edged pink toothed leaves, resembling "Venus fly trap". Scented flowers in late summer.
An elegant tree when young with glossy green leaves and arching branches. Height after 10yrs over 6m.
Stunning bright coral red stems and buds through winter, golden leaves in spring, turning a lime colour in summer.
Golden Lime
Broad, pyramidal crown. Mellow golden yellow leaves when young becoming green with age. Medium in height.
A rare and beautiful tree with smallish leaves which are offset at the base and unusually shaped with a paler underside.
Small Leaved Lime
Ivory, star shaped, sweetly scented flowers in summer. Leathery, heart shaped leaves. Height after 10yrs over 6m.
Bristle margined leaves almost 'venus flytrap' like in appearance. Tips downy pink. Height after 10yrs up to 6m.
Round-headed tree with Maple-like leaves and brown-red stems. Aphid resistant so won't drip sticky honeydew.
An elegant tree with pendant glabrous shoots. Broad, finely-toothed leaves are silvery white beaneath.
