2022 Toyota Tundra: 5 Things You Need To Know About The All-New Pickup

Toyota has introduced an all-new 2022 Tundra that was devised from the ground-up to be the toughest, most capable, and most advanced Tundra to date. Designed, engineered, and built in the United States – it’s a true All-American – the full-size pickup promises to exceed expectations with its equipment and performance and turn heads with its new styling. 

Check out these five areas where the all-new 2022 Toyota Tundra excels: 

The 2022 Toyota Tundra is fitted with a twin-turbo V6 engine

Automakers have been downsizing cylinder count and displacement in an effort to improve fuel economy. Gone is the Tundra’s traditional V8 engine, instead replaced with a pair of twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 engines. The standard i-FORCE engine is rated at 389 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque. The i-FORCE MAX is a hybrid variant with an engineered bell-housing motor system that boost power to 437 hp and 583 lb-ft of torque. Both engines, which are more powerful and fuel efficient than the outgoing V8, are mated to a standard 10-speed automatic transmission and a choice between 4x2 and 4x4 drivelines.    

The 2022 Toyota Tundra can tow 12,000 pounds

Thanks to a new high-strength boxed steel-ladder frame, a fully redesigned multi-link rear suspension, and rear shock absorbers mounted outside the frame rails, the Tundra is able to tow up to 12,000 pounds – that’s a 17.6 percent improvement over its predecessor. To make towing less challenging, Toyota has engineered two new Tow/Haul modes for the powertrain. The standard “Tow/Haul” increases throttle response – it is perfect for light to moderate loads. Heavier loads will use “Tow/Haul+” mode, which provides more aggressive throttle response to move the additional mass effortlessly.

The 2022 Toyota Tundra boasts a composite bed

Some automakers still use steel for pickup bed construction, which is very strong, but is subject to corrosion. Other automakers have tried aluminum, which solved the rust issue but it’s not as durable. Toyota has chosen to go with a lightweight, corrosion-resistant, and strong bed made of Sheet-Molded Composite (SMC) with reinforcing aluminum crossmembers. The tailgate is 20 percent lighter, thanks to the SMC construction, and the bed offers superior resistance against dents, dings, and rust. The 2022 Toyota Tacoma bed is offered in 5.5 foot, 6.5 foot, and 8.1 feet lengths. 

The 2022 Toyota Tundra is loaded with new technology

Truck owners want technology, so Toyota loaded the all-new 2022 Tundra with innovative equipment. The Tundra will introduce Toyota’s all-new Audio Multimedia system – boasting five times the processing power of its predecessors – that uses new designed touchscreens and features a new Human Machine Interface (HMI). The standard touchscreen is 8-inches, but there is an optional 14-inch screen available. In addition to a virtual Intelligent Assistant, which uses easy-to-use conversational phrases during voice operation, Tundra offers cloud-based navigation and Toyota Connected Services. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are also standard.  

The 2022 Toyota Tundra features standard Safety Sense 2.5

Unlike other truck manufacturers, which require buyers to spend more money on premium grades to get safety equiopment, Toyota is offering its all-new 2022 Tundra with standard Toyota Safety Sense 2.5 (TSS 2.5) on all trims. The Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection (PCS w/PD) has been enhanced to detect the vehicle in front, plus pedestrians in low light. It is also designed to detect oncoming vehicles (or pedestrians) when the Tundra is making a left turn through an intersection – if PCS w/PD detects an imminent collision it will provide audio/visual alerts and initiate automatic braking. Other standard safety equipment on all-new 2022 Toyota Tundra includes Lane Tracing Assist (LTA), Road Sign Assist (RSA), Blind Spot Monitor (BSM), and Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA).
