The classification of this plant, along with almost all other 'Echinodorus' grown in the aquarium hobby, has recently been revised - these plants now belong to the new 'Aquarius' genus.

Aquarius x schlueteri, commonly known as Echinodorus Schlueteri or the Mini Swordplant, is a natural Aquarius hybrid with bright green leaves. This plant is believed to be a cross between Aquarius x maculatus and Aquarius reptilis, but has a complex lineage. The Schlueteri Sword is a popular plant in the aquarium hobby, thanks to its ease of care, attractive appearance, and tolerance for a wide range of water conditions.
