Sphaerichthys Vaillanti

Sphaerichthys vaillanti or known as Samurai gourami is a species of Osphronemidae family. It is native to Asia, where it is known only from the Semitou Kalimantan region of Borneo in Indonesia.

Like most kind of Sphaerichthys species , this species is quite shy and should only be mixed with gentle species. Samurai gourami needs to be kept in a soft, acidic, warm blackwater tank with significant tannin levels and low nitrate levels.

As micropredator Samurai gourami  feeding on small aquatic crustaceans, worms, insect larvae and other zooplankton. It can be a little picky in the aquarium and initially may not accept dried foods. Small live food such as Artemia, Daphnia or micro worm are the best option at the beginning before introducing it to accept dry dried or frozen foods.
