Utricularia biloba – Royal National Park – December

Last time I visited this swamp, high rainfall meant that it was full to the brim and Utricularia biloba only grew terrestrially at its edge. This year, the water level was much lower. In the muddy shallows, hundreds of U. biloba carpeted the ground and bloomed profusely. I was also able to observe the finely divided leaves when the species grows aquatically. In NSW, the plants usually flower much later in the year – around February or March but I observed this event near Christmas time.
