Looking for a plant that will thrive, whatever the conditions? Look no further than Polygonum amphibium, the “Water Smartweed”! Growing naturally around our shop, this is one tough cookie. It sets itself apart with its long, prostrate stems and erect, dense flower clusters that are sure to look great however you choose to use it. Imagine your own backyard, teeming with these prostrate (stems that grow horizontally along the ground instead of vertically) stems and covered in pink flower clusters - it'd be remarkably picturesque! And when you buy your own? We go out into the wild and fetch it ourselves, making sure it's as fresh as possible each time!
Meet Polygonum amphibium, the new star of your water garden! It's not just any aquatic or wetland plant – it's a showy one with a Greek name to match. Polygonum means “many” while “amphibium” is derived from "knee" and "joint" – tongue twisters best left to the pros. But even better than the names are the looks; this plant truly lives up to its name each time its showy blooms pop off the stems at those thickened joints with their striking sheaths. So if you're looking for something hardy and resilient to liven up any area of land or water, Polygonum amphibium is just what you need!

BENEFITS OF PLANTING POLYGONUM AMPHIBIUM
Polygonum amphibium, commonly known as water smartweed, is a versatile and hardy plant that offers several benefits when planted in suitable environments. Here are some reasons why you may want to consider planting Polygonum amphibium:
Water filtration: Polygonum amphibium is known for its ability to absorb excess nutrients and pollutants from the water, helping to improve water quality and reduce the risk of environmental pollution. By filtering the water, it helps to maintain a healthy and balanced aquatic ecosystem. This can be particularly important in urban or agricultural areas where nutrient pollution can be a major problem.
Erosion control: Polygonum amphibium has a fibrous root system that can help to stabilize soil and prevent erosion in wetland habitats. This can help to protect the shoreline from erosion and maintain a stable and healthy aquatic environment. Additionally, the plant's root system can help to trap sediment and organic matter, which can improve water quality and provide a source of nutrients for other plants and animals.
Aesthetics: Polygonum amphibium is a visually appealing plant that can add color and interest to ponds, lakes, and other aquatic habitats. Its small, pink flowers and attractive foliage provide a striking contrast to the surrounding water, making it a popular choice for ornamental planting.
Habitat creation: Polygonum amphibium provides an ideal habitat for aquatic wildlife, including fish, amphibians, and invertebrates. Its leaves and roots offer shade, shelter, and a source of food for these creatures, contributing to the overall health and biodiversity of the aquatic ecosystem. This can help to support populations of native species and promote healthy ecosystem functioning.
Low maintenance: Polygonum amphibium is a low maintenance plant that can tolerate a range of growing conditions. Once established, it requires little care, making it an ideal choice for natural landscaping and restoration projects.
Medicinal uses: Polygonum amphibium has a long history of medicinal use among indigenous cultures. Its leaves and roots have been used for treating a range of ailments, including skin irritations, digestive problems, and fever.

We label each species of plants individually with their scientific and common name. We fill the excess space in the package with air pillows and packing paper to prevent the plants from receiving damage during shipping.
Carbon Emission Statement:
We carbon-offset by using recycled boxes and packing material from our local area whenever we can, and as much as we can! As a Fresh-To-Order Nursery it's part of the job to try helping ensure that Earth lasts for generations ahead. While providing beautiful plants in these areas also requires taking care of the plants that grow there. Harvesting only occurs on acres pure untouched marsh or wetlands which provide habitats for wildlife, both now and hopefully for many years to come! It is our mission to preserve these areas.
