This evergreen tree produces delicious fruits that are highly valued and in South America and tropical Asia they are sold in local markets.

Ripe fruits bruise and spoil easily - the reason why you usually don't find them outside their native range. The juicy pulp has the consistency of jelly and a delicious flavor that can be compared to caimito or caramel custard/ flan. Unripe fruits contain latex that will make your lips stick together.

The plants grow best in a location in full sun but will tolerate some shade. They prefer a hot humid climate year round and do well in greenhouses. They do not tolerate frost and therefore have to be protected or taken indoors in certain areas.
