Ryan Hurst has joined the cast of Bates Motel.

The Sons of Anarchy actor will appear in season three in a major recurring role, reports TVLine.

Hurst will play Chick Hogan, an intelligent ex-con with dark and menacing personality traits.

The character owns a motorbike shop, but runs an illegal firearms trade on the side.

Hurst played Opie during Sons of Anarchy's first five seasons, and since then has guest-starred on Law & Order: SVU and featured in King & Maxwell.

He will appear in Bates Motel alongside former Sons of Anarchy cast-mate Kenny Johnson.

Bates Motel returns to the US in March 2015.
