Adam Ant has said that he has been "lucky" in his struggles with mental health problems.

The popstar, who was diagnosed with bipolar disorder at the age of 21 and hospitalised in 2010, told ITV's This Morning that his issues will always be with him.

"I'm still as aware of it as I was when I came here a number of years ago promoting the book... you have to be aware of the situation," Ant said.

"It's always with you, and you spend day to day balancing yourself."

He added: "I've learnt to say no and I've learnt when I'm tired. But I've been lucky.

"I made a decision over the last few years to not have the elephant in the room and to discuss mental health and I found the response from the fans, the amount of letters that I got about their situation and how the music has helped them.

"And even if it's just a few people, if I've led them into dealing with going to Mind charity or importantly to their GP - they have to see their doctor and tell him - demand the time to explain how you feel."
