When it comes to fast-food burger chains, everyone has a favorite. Some people prefer the Golden Arches or a certain King, but anyone who appreciates the decadent Frosty will tell you that Wendy's is where it's at—which is why we've dug up all of the information you need to know about the little red restaurant you know and love.

1. It all began in 1969.

Dave Thomas opened the first Wendy's restaurant in Columbus, OH on East Broad Street.

2. Wendy's opened the very first pick-up window.

An innovation for the quick-serve restaurant industry, Wendy's first pick-up window—with a separate grill dedicated to it—opened in November 1970 at the company's second location in Columbus.

3. The chain grew like crazy in just 7 years.

By 1976, there were already 500 locations of the burger chain, including two locations across the border in Canada. Two years later, the company doubled and had opened 1,000 restaurants.

4. There are so many ways to hack your Frosty.

As much as we love to sip on a classic frozen Frosty, we'd be lying if we said we weren't apt to hack it every once in a while. From adding a s'mores twist to dunking lotsa fries, there are so many options to upgrading that spectacular soft-serve treat.

5. Wendy's aired its first commercial in 1977.

It became the first quick-service chain with less than 1,000 restaurants to launch a national advertising campaign on network television.

6. You can often get Frosties for free—or at least discounted.

Whether it's a charity-benefitting Frosty Key Tag or a fundraising coupon book, Wendy's regularly offers deals on its frozen chocolate and vanilla drink-dessert hybrids that we know you're addicted to just as much as we are. 

7. Baked potatoes weren't on the menu until 1983.

Wendy's was actually the first fast-food spot to add hot, stuffed baked potatoes to its docket nationwide.

8. You can blame Wendy's for getting "Where's the beef?" stuck in your head.

Though its been copied by dozens of brands over the last two decades, Wendy's was the original creator of the "Where's the beef?" catchphrase. Starring Clara Peller and sidekicks Elizabeth Shaw and Mildred Lane, the funny campaign quickly became one of the most popular commercials of all time.

9. There's a super fancy Wendy's in New Orleans.

Nestled in the French Quarter of the Big Easy, it was the 3,000th restaurant to open back in 1985.

10. The vanilla Frosty didn't exist until 2006.

We know, it seems like a no-brainer that vanilla should have always been an offering—but chocolate always trumps plain-Jane vanilla, doesn't it? In August the newbie made waves on the Wendy's menu since the Frosty is such an iconic dessert.

11. It has only tweaked the logo a couple times.

For the first time in 30 years, Wendy's made changes to its logo, giving it a more modern look in 2013. Before that, the original look was a favored standby.

12. The fries have totally changed.

In 2010, Wendy's swapped out its standard french fries for natural-cut spuds that feature the potato skin for additional texture and taste. They're made from 100 percent Russet potatoes and sprinkled with sea salt.
