Star Trek actor Rene Auberjonois has died aged 79 following a battle with metastatic lung cancer.
The star who was best known for his roles in The Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, M*A*S*H and Benson passed away at his family home in Los Angeles.
Rene's son, Remy-Luc confirmed the news.
He also starred in Boston Legal, appearing in 71 episodes as Paul Lewiston.
Speaking about his roles in 2011, Rene said: "I am all of those characters."
He also joked that fans claimed he was their cousin or their dry cleaner.
Deep Space Nine co-star Armin Shimerman, who played Quark in the sensation posted a tribute, reading: "It is with great heartache and loss I share the passing of dear, dear Rene Auberjonois.
"His last message to me was entitled 'Don't forget...' I know that I, Kitty and all that knew him will never forget. The world seems noticeably emptier now. I loved him."
Rene is survived by his wife, Judith Auberjonois who he had been married to for 56-years.
Fans flooded Twitter as the news broke, with one fan saying: "I adored his work. RIP."
A second tweeted: "So deeply saddened to hear of the passing of @reneauberjonois, a hugely talented actor.
"I will always remember Rene as Security Chief Odo in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. He is a great loss for the Star Trek Universe.
"God bless you, Rene. And thank you."
While a third added: "Crushed to hear about Rene Auberjonois. He managed to bring heart and depth to an amorphous blob.
"If that's not acting chops, I don't know what is. He will be missed."
The heartbreaking news comes just days after Star Trek actor Robert Walker Jr, died aged 79.
