Price: £2.25
In flavour and smell, like a mild spearmint, this attractive mint is one for the border as well as the herb garden with dense spikes of lilac coloured flowers in late summer. It can be found scattered throughout most of the British Isles (although doubtfully native) growing in damp places.

Familiar, indispensable and easily grown perennials. The familiar aromatic leaves come with the bonus of beautiful and majestic spikes of mauve flowers in the autumn. Loved by bees.

Germination Instructions

Sow indoors. Surface sow onto lightly firmed, moist well-drained seed compost. Just cover seed with a sprinkling of soil. Light is needed for germination. Propagate 18-20°C. Germination can be slow and erratic taking many weeks. Transplant seedlings once large enough to handle to 15cm pots. Acclimatise and plant out once danger of frost has passed.

Growing Instructions

Will grow in any soil in any situation. Can be invasive so restrict root run. Pinch out growing tips of young plant to encourage bushiness and vigorous growth. Water in dry weather.

Cultivation Instructions

Cut back regularly to encourage new growth and to prevent flowering (if growing for leaf production). Will die back to ground level in winter.  Divide plants every 3 years to maintain plant vigour. Top dress with compost in autumn.
