    The brilliant coppery-orange red of these flowers is the main reason for including this wild flower (actually a garden escape but now found growing wild in many places). It is a shade not found on many other plants and the flowers, each an inch or so across, are borne in clusters in succession from the end of May right into autumn. 10ins (25cm)

    Germination Instructions

    Sow indoors at any time, sow under glass in spring. Surface sow onto moist, well-drained seed compost. Ideal temp. 10-16°C. Germination takes 21-30 days approx. If germination has not occurred after 4 weeks cold stratify. Move to 4°C for 2-4 weeks then return to warmth for germination. Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle to 8cm pots and grow on. Acclimatise and plant out after danger of frost has passed.

    Growing Instructions

    Prefers any moderately fertile, well-drained soil. Requires little attention.

    Cultivation Instructions

    Cut back after flowering. Will self-seed freely. Deadhead if you do not want volunteer seedlings next season. Can become invasive in warmer regions. Propagate by seed.
