Is Eva Longoria Related to Evan Longoria?

Thanks to their uncommon last name, actor Eva Longoria and Major League Baseball player Evan Longoria have been subjected to questions about their family trees. After all, famous families are not unheard of in Hollywood or professional sports. Take a look at both of their careers and find out if the two celebrities are actually related. 

Are Eva Longoria and Evan Longoria related?

Evan Longoria, a popular player from the MLB, and Eva Longoria, one of Hollywood’s most famous actors, have very similar names, but are they actually related? During a Wired interview, Eva Longoria answered the question once and for all. Though the pair are not related at all, Eva Longoria did share a funny anecdote behind their extremely similar and shared name.

The actor explained that Desperate Housewives was at its peak when Evan Longoria’s baseball career was getting started. As a result, when the rookie would go up to bat, the crowd would often chant “Eva, Eva, Eva”. The baseball player didn’t love it, but it must have not bothered the professional athlete too much since he went on to win Rookie of the Year.

When Eva Longoria heard about the news, she sent the baseball celebrity some champagne with a note apologizing for their name similarities. When Evan Longoria received the actor’s thoughtful gift he returned the gesture and sent Eva Longoria one of his signed jerseys and a message explaining that he finds the uncanny coincidence to be an honor.

Eva Longoria’s journey in the spotlight

Eva Longoria is most often associated with her time on Desperate Housewives. The ABC series ran for eight seasons before sadly coming to an end in 2012. After Desperate Housewives, Longoria made appearances on shows like Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Telenovela. More recently, the actor played Carmen in the 2020 film Sylvie’s Love. However, before her days on Wisteria Lane, Eva Longoria appeared in a few soap operas. 

Her fans and followers might be surprised to learn that she actually was in over 300 episodes of The Young and the Restless. From 2001 to 2003, Longoria played Isabella Braña Williams. The actor also very briefly appeared on General Hospital as a “Brenda Barrett Lookalike.”

Longoria made her directorial debut with the 2023 film Flamin’ Hot. She is married to Mexican media executive José Antonio “Pepe” Bastón Patiño, and the couple shares a daughter.

A closer look into Evan Longoria’s career 

Evan Longoria’s MLB career began in 2008 with the Tampa Bay Rays. He won the American League Rookie of the Year award, helping the team reach the World Series. Longoria played for the Rays through the 2017 season and joined the San Francisco Giants in 2018. In 2023, he signed with the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Diamondbacks made it to the 2023 World Series, losing to the Texas Rangers.

Longoria has made four All-Star teams during his career, won three Gold Glove awards, and won a Silver Slugger award for the 2009 season.

The baseball player married model and The Amazing Race contestant Jaime Edmondson in 2015. The couple has three children together.
