Lysimachia punctata 'Alexander' PP113.0098Common name: Variegated Loosestrife.
Zones 4 to 8.
Full sun to part shade.
Plants reach 18 to 24 inches tall and 24 to 36 inches wide.
Growth rate: Rapid, erect herbaceous clump-forming perennial. Eye-catching lime green leaves with bright ivory margins. In the spring, the new growth is tinged with pink and as the season progresses the green leaves may lighten up. The yellow, star-like flowers appear in the leaf axils from early to late summer. This species tends to be less invasive than other Lysimachias.
Lysimachia is very easy to grow in either sun or part shade. When grown in moist soil, it tends to spread quite rapidly, so be sure to give it lots of room to grow. To reduce or eliminate spreading, plant Lysimachia in drier soil in part shade, or grow it in a root barrier. These make wonderful, long lasting cut flowers for cheerful bouquets.
Attributes: border plant, in containers, cut flowers, and mass plantings.
