Temperament
The Redbone Coonhound loves to be with its family, although its affectionate nature can sometimes be overwhelming to small children and even adults. If kept indoors, this breed may become lazy and overweight. Young coonhounds will be highly energetic with a tendency to chew, bark loudly and bay. These dogs are known to drool and often have the ?doggy? smell.

History
This dog was bred in Georgia during the 1800s to hunt raccoons, as well as bears, bobcats, and cougars. It is the only solid coat coonhound. This is an agile breed that is comfortable working in terrain ranging from swamplands to mountains ? and even water. A descendant of Foxhounds and Bloodhounds, this breed was featured in the children?s book ?Where the Fern Grows.?
