Phlorigidoside B
Overview
Description
Phlorigidoside B is an iridoid glucoside isolated from the aerial parts of Phlomis rigida, alongside other compounds such as phlorigidoside A and C. The identification and structural elucidation of these compounds, including phlorigidoside B, were based on spectral and chemical evidence. This compound, along with its counterparts, contributes to the diversity of iridoid glucosides present in the Phlomis species, showcasing the complex chemical makeup of this plant genus (Takeda et al., 2000).
Scientific Research Applications
- Summary of the Application : Phlorigidoside B is a natural iridoid isolated from the roots of Lamiophlomis rotata (Benth.) Kudo . It has been studied for its anti-inflammatory and analgesic activities .
- Methods of Application or Experimental Procedures : The study involved the isolation of iridoids and cycloartane glycosides from the aerial parts of Phlomoides labiosa Bunge. Six compounds were isolated and their chemical structures were identified . The anti-inflammatory and analgesic activities of the sum of iridoids were studied .
- Results or Outcomes : The sum of iridoids with intragastric administration was found to be 5.2 and 52.5 times less toxic than such market drugs as analgin and diclofenac sodium, respectively . In terms of the latitude of analgesic action (LD50/ED50), the sum of iridoids exceeds analgin by 19.2 times and diclofenac sodium by 16 times . The anti-inflammatory and analgesic activities of the sum of iridoids were confirmed to be effective and nontoxic, and exceed known drugs diclofenac sodium and analgin (metamizole sodium) .
