Police arrested Carl Hansen on May 14, 2020 after reporting the death of his wife at their Apache Junction home.

Apache Junction police arrested the husband of 29-year-old Kassondra Maloney after her death last week was declared to be a homicide, according to police officials.

Carl Hansen is accused of second-degree murder after reporting to police that he found Maloney's body when he returned to their home near Ironwood Drive and Lost Dutchman Boulevard on May 13, said Marshall Harshman, a spokesman for Apache Junction Police Department.

Preliminary investigation showed "obvious signs of trauma" to Maloney's body and prompted investigators to notify the Criminal Investigations Division, police said.

Police obtained a warrant to search the home and investigated further, Harshman said.

A medical examiner declared Maloney's death a homicide on May 14, and Hansen was brought in for questioning, according to officials.

Hansen was booked into the Pinal County Detention Center with a bond set at $275,000.
